Hundreds of people around Australia took part in this year’s Big Walk 4 Refugees – calling for kindness and a fair go for refugees and people seeking asylum
Big Walkers powered through 44,000kms of solidarity throughout June 2025 in a collective action to highlight the need for positive change in Australia’s policies.
This year’s virtual route connected Australia, Christmas Island, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Nauru - key sites where Australia’s harsh detention and offshore processing has caused ongoing suffering and trauma for refugees and people seeking asylum.
The walk shone a light on the heartbreaking legacy of policies which punish, rather than protect, people who arrive by boat to seek asylum in Australia. It also highlighted the continuing resistance and protest against these policies led by refugees and people seeking asylum with supporters at their side.
