What happens after I register?
You will get an email with details on how to log into the Big Walk 4 Refugees Challenge page. This will come from Big Team Challenge, the company that provides the platform to track all participants’ activity. If you register early you will get the email on Thursday 27th May. If you register on or after 27th May you will get a log in email within 24-48 hours of registering.
How do I log into the Big Walk 4 Refugees Challenge page?
When you get your log in email click on the link and set up a password for your account. This will mean all your activities are registered to you and your team. Check out this video to see how to log in when you get your log in email from Big Team Challenge
If you are using the mobile ap to register you should enter "bigwalk4refugees" when asked for the Challenge Website address.
How do I register my walk/run/swim or other activity?
There are three options for registering your activities. You need to log in to the challenge page or via the mobile app before you start. See above FAQs for info about logging In. You can watch this video for instructions on how to add your activity.
Use the website challenge page to manually enter your activity. Select the type of activity (e.g. Walk), the date, the units (e.g. minutes) and the quantity (Watch from 45 second mark of video)
Use the mobile app to automatically sync your activity. You need a Garmin watch or similar sports watch and the mobile app. (Watch from 12 second mark of video)
Use the Mobile App to to manually enter your activity. Select the type of activity (e.g. Walk), the date, the units (e.g. minutes) and the quantity (Watch from 1m08s mark of video)

I need some help in using the Big Walk App that I downloaded and what smart devices are supported?
Big Team Challenge is the platform we are using for the Big Walk 4 Refugees. If you have a Garmin Watch, Fitbit or Apple Watch etc. you can connect to your mobile phone. There are videos for connecting to Fitbit, Garmin Connect, Apple Health and Health Connect (Health Connect works with Google Fit, Samsung Health and more). Where do I get the mobile app from?
The mobile app is provided by Big Teams Challenge, the company that we are patterning with to track everyone’s activity and move along the virtual path. If you want to download the app to your phone search the app store on your phone for Big Team Challenge or click on the relevant link below using your mobile.

Is there a flier I can download to share or print?
Download this flier and share with friends or family or print and put copies up at your gym or local coffee shop etc.
When should I register?
Register now - every step you during June counts. You can join events or walk with friends but you need to be registered for your steps to count. The steps that you take everyday - when you are shopping, walking the dogs, doing your gardening - it all adds up to register now and be have every step in June counted.
I have organised a walk in my community and would like to share it on the Big Walk for Refugees Calendar?
Go to the “events” tab and click on the link that says “Tell us about your event so we can share on the calendar” and then fill out the template with your event details and we will add it to the calender. Allow as much lead time as possible, we are all volunteers so the more time we have to make updates to the calendar the better for everyone.
How do I sync my Big Walk 4 Refugees app to automatically count steps?
To automatically count steps you need to have a fitness device like a smart watch or a fit bit. You also need to have the relevant application for that device on your phone. Supported Apps include Garmin, Fitbit, Apple Health and Samsung Watch. Once you have installed the Big Walk 4 Refugees app you can follow the prompts to sync to your existing fitness app. More details and videos on how to sync are available under the “Help” tab at Big Team Challenge.
How do I register different types of activities?
When you enter your details manually you nominate your type of activity and how much you did, e.g. time or distance. Big Team Challenge has an automatic conversion tool that translates activities like swimming, cycling, dancing, yoga and more into steps. So whatever activity you do, it helps move the whole challenge team along our virtual route. Want to see more details on how this works?
Do I need to be in a team?
Yes, you need to be in a team for your steps to count. Once you are in a team, your steps and kilometres are synced, which propels us around our virtual walk.
Which Team should I be in?
You can either be in a team of a group that you are a member of that is listed when you register or simply select Team Vic, Team NSW, Team SA etc for the state you are in.
Can I be in more than one team?
No, you can only be in one team. But the important point is that all participants are working together to complete the virtual walk around Australia. This is not a race against other participants, its a way of sending a message to the politicians in Canberra that 10,000 refugees need permanent Visas now, Refugees in Indonesia need a path forward and Australia needs to end off shore detention and bring the “Forgotten Men” back from PNG.
