Big Walk 4 Refugees 2025 on a roll
The Big Walk 4 Refugees is back again in 2025.
We’re walking for:
- Thousands of people in our communities still waiting for permanent visas after 13 years
- 14,000 people stranded in Indonesia, still waiting for resettlement after 12 years
- 100 + people on Nauru without certainty for their future since October 2023
- 40 men and families in Papua New Guinea since 2013
From Sunday 1st of June to Monday 30th of June hundreds of people all over Australia will be walking, running, swimming, dancing and more to show their support for justice for refugees. The virtual walk will visit key locations in the campaign for a fair deal for refugees.
It will pass through Woomera where thousands camped and rallied for refugees locked up in 2000 until its closure in 2003. Then on to other detenion centres including a virtual visit to Christmas Island where millions of dollars have been spent to lock people up rather than help them. The virtual path will continue through Indonesia where refugees languish, with the Australian government ignoring their plight. As people walk at home or exercise the map will go through Nauru, Manus Island and Port Moresby where Australia continues to isolate and detain people seeking safety. Then down the east coast of Australia and finishing in Canberra.
The Big Walk is a virtual walk that unites people in local communities all around Australia in one action to show solidarity with refugees and people seeking asylum
